What To Eat & Drink After Indulging in Desserts – Raw Vegan Style!

I’ve been posting about my raw vegan desserts, such as the Sweet n’ Creamy Chocolate Almond Cookies and Giant Raw Vegan No Oatmeal Chocolate Raisin Cookie. I’m a realist – and human. Thus, like you, I too indulge once in awhile, but it’s important to understand it is physiologically normal and negative emotions for it are unnecessary.

But what do you do the day after indulging?

Instead of being caught in an emotional roller-coaster ride, it’s best to appreciate whatever it is that is eaten, which I explain more about here.

Since fats are often used in rich desserts, they not only make you feel heavy physically, but they slow the digestive process. Whether you eat nuts and other sources of fat-dense foods daily or once a week, it’s best to start the next day or meal with:

  • 1/2 lemon’s juice in warm water; followed by
  • Either a green juice or green smoothie

All three of these are excellentt to cleanse the entire digestive system and will have it running back to normal in no time – which will allow you to (excuse me for this, but it must be said) – excrete quickly. This is a simple and excellent way to cleanse the body and mind overall too!

I personally prefer to have a green juice following an indulgence, but that’s just how I like to RAWk my diet. There is no fiber in the juice, meaning I don’t feel even heavier than I already do when I have a juice over a smoothie.

If you are feeling hungry, then of course, have that smoothie!! Just make sure it’s high in leafy greens instead of high in sugars. Although fruit sugars are okay, it’s best not to overload your system by combining both fats and fruit – not to mention it may cause digestive unease, depending on how closely together they are consumed. Nobody wants stomach cramps after indulging on a sweet, rich and yummylicious treat!

A question I am often asked is how much of these liquids ought to be consumed. Honestly, you have to listen to your body. If you know you don’t want to eat and feel full, but need some energy, opt for the juice. Prepare as much as you like and if there is any leftover, store it in a mason jar and in the fridge, and drink it throughout the day. Feeling hungry? Prepare yourself a smoothie of any quantity – and again, just keep leftovers in the fridge.

Over one liter (1L) of green/purple juice I drank over two days post-indulgence. Yeah, I’m hardcore like that.

It was so beautiful (in better lighting) – and delicious too!

You can never have too many greens prepared in advance, especially if you have a busy lifestyle. Perhaps you have a demanding job, or a family to take care of. Maybe that cute guy or girl asked you out for dinner TONIGHT! That’s cool, don’t fret – you’ve got green juice or smoothie ready to grab before you head out. (P.S. Both give your skin an excellent glow – I highly recommend drinking these before a date!)
