I am a vibrant young woman who is on a mission to help individuals (especially young women and children), RAWk their way to optimal health using mostly raw vegan foods and making necessary lifestyle changes.
Let food be thy medicine is the core of my philosophy. Improving our eating habits and living a healthier lifestyle doesn’t mean being 100% raw vegan – it means taking things one step at a time to move towards reaching your personal health goals, whether it is to:
- Incorporate green smoothies into your diet
- Simply eat a cleaner, healthier diet
- Increase your energy
- Sleep better
- Slim down
- Bulk up and put on muscle mass; or
- Compliment professional medical help you are receiving for any particular health condition with the incorporation of vegan or raw vegan foods and creating more self-nurturing lifestyle habits.
My name is Purna Bhattacharya, and I a Raw Vegan & Wellness Coach. I am also a Raw Food Educator, Speaker as well as a local Raw Culinary Instructor. This is one wicked sweet beat I can drum to every single day for the rest of my long, healthy and energy-filled life!
What made me so passionate about sharing my knowledge of raw foods with others in a calm, nurturing manner?
- I’ve always loved to share anything I value and care about with others.
- Raw vegan foods became one of them after I became very ill, and later conquered it via a raw vegan diet and lifestyle.
Since the age of thirteen, I battled an unknown illness that persisted for the following ten years of my life. A sudden extreme pain would strike my throat and ears, along with inflammed lymph nodes and muscles all over my body. This was accompanied by flu-like symptoms, even though no colds or flus were present. I was unable to eat, speak, work nor go to school for lengthy periods of time.
For those ten yeas, I was robbed of the ability to socialize and live a normal life. I lived in constant fear and agonizing pain, debilitated by what felt like a monstrous illness. This often stopped me from leading my life the way I had hoped. My University years were the most difficult of them all! I wanted to get to the root of the problem, so I never gave up, although at times, I most certainly felt there wasn’t any hope.
I saw every type of specialist in mainstream medicine and underwent all kinds of medical examinations to get to the root cause of the issue. What was the end result? The exact same place where I had started – without answers, without further follow-ups, without the professional medical care that I needed.
After those ten years, I hit my breaking point just before moving to a city away from my hometown to begin a Master’s degree. There, I sought the advice of a naturopathic doctor. This single step changed my entire life. After following my naturopath’s guidelines – primarily dietary changes as well as natural and homeopathic medications – I drastically improved. I noticed a reduction of pain, inflammation, headaches and digestive issues. However, there was still room for improvement because the throat inflammation and pain would mildly return once in awhile.
At this point, I had already been studying the raw vegan diet and lifestyle for a long time and decided that moving from my then current diet to a raw vegan diet was the next obvious choice. Why? Because:
- Many of the foods that are excluded in the raw vegan diet are those to which I am allergic or sensitive, such as gluten, dairy, caffeine, sugar, and more.
My dear movers and shakers, this is not a coincidence – it’s because the foods that are made available to us at regular grocery stores are not “foods” at all. These “foods” are made of chemicals, preservatives and artificial ingredients that can ultimately kill us.
In addition, I also exclude nightshade vegetables as they cause inflammation, as well as coconuts, soy, corn and peanuts, and I limit natural sugars other than fruit.
This is the ultimate raw vegan diet for anyone with allergies and sensitivities, who needs more energy, better sleep, who is prone to arthritis and inflammatory-based illnesses, and who wants to lose weight or bulk up – naturally.
I ate almost completely raw for a few years and detoxed the cr*p out my body and organs (quite literally!) After eliminating my throat, ear and muscle pains, I have heard of other similar cases. I am astounded that the basic ways of eating are commonly unknown, misunderstood and/or perceived as being ‘weird.’
If our ancestors lived on plant-based foods, then why can’t we? Why do we eat such high quantities of processed, chemical-injected and chemically-created foods, when natural plant-based foods are widely available to us? Let food by thy medicine. It’s as simple as that.
Today, I lead a vibrant, active and pain-free life by eating raw vegan foods and engaging in regular exercise and maintaining a positive, enthusiastic and loving attitude.
